Governor participated in the inaugural program of ‘Eye Disease Awareness Seminar and Cataract Operation Week’ at Raj Bhavan.

Eye awareness seminar organized at Raj Bhawan on the eve of the birthday of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Dehradun: Governor Retd. Gen. Gurmeet Singh participated in the inaugural program of “Eye Disease Awareness Seminar and Cataract Operation Week” organized by Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Medical Education University at Raj Bhavan.

Under the inspiration and guidance of the Governor, free eye disease examination and cataract operation camps will be organized in 15 medical units of the state from 25-31 December. Eye examination, consultation, and cataract operations will be done free of cost in these camps. For ex-servicemen and their dependents, the camps will be conducted by renowned surgeon Brigadier Sanjay Mishra of Army Hospital Delhi at Military Hospital Dehradun. The Governor said that eyes are the most precious gift of God, which it is our duty to take care of. He said that due to today’s modern lifestyle, excessive use of mobile, TV and digital devices, the risk of eye pressure and diseases has increased. He said that with increasing age, it is common to face the challenges of eye diseases, especially cataract. In such a situation, this campaign will provide an opportunity for eye health and treatment to all sections of the society, especially the rural areas and deprived communities.

The Governor described this program as an important public service campaign and said that this initiative will not only help in the treatment of eye diseases, but will also prove helpful in increasing awareness. He appreciated the efforts of health institutions, doctors, and voluntary organizations and appealed to the people to take maximum advantage of these camps.
