We All Know That the ‘Vision is our Mission’. So, today we will share one incredible motivational  story of a common Woman. She is  named CHAKORI DEVI. She belongs to the village bawai, Rudraparyag Dt. Uttarakhand.

We all know that COVID19 affected us all from every aspect like income source, health and so on.  It also affected Chakori Devi.

Chakori Devi has 4 children but they all live separately. Chakori Devi lives alone. Many financial problems occur in her daily life.  She has no income source. Still she manages her to survive her daily life with daily needs.

Our two responsible CHW Mr. Rakesh Kunwar and Mr. Saurabh Rawat were doing a survey in Bawai last December  in Bawai. There met Chakori Devi. When our CHW did her visual assessment.

They found that her vision in both eyes is 6/60 and have Cataract in both. So our CHW explained to her that she had cataract in both eyes. An  operation of  the cataract is needed. If she ignore this situation, then she will have to face many complications. The brave lady Chakori Devi understood the problem.

She decided to come to Rudraparyag vision center for a full comprehensive eye examination on 6/01/2024. Our senior optometrist Mr. Hanumant Singh Panwar did the visual assessment and microscopic examination. He explained to her that she has to go to Dehradun for cataract surgery immediately. Our center Co-coordinator at the centre, Mr. Anoop Panwar, explained to her that the surgery will be free of cost.

The food and accommodation will also  be free. Our own transport system will give her a ride to Dehradun. After Operation the medication will be free.  The return to Bawai will be free of cost. After hearing the explanation she made up her mind to get the operation done. We could see in her eyes that she had faith in us.

That day she went home after the check up and we fixed a date for the operation of the cataract in the left eye on 9/01/2024. So on 8/1/2024 Chakori Devi came to Rudraprayag vision center for her operation in Dehradun. The hospital bus picked her up at 9 AM from Rudraprayag vision center and started for Dehradun. At 1 PM the bus stopped at teendhara for some refreshment and lunch for the patient. Every patient had his/her lunch in teendhara.  Then the bus reached Dehradun Ramkrishna Mission Ashram Vivekananda Netralaya at 4PM. After reaching the hospital our attendant served refreshment to Chakori Devi and other patients.

After half an hour the pre –operative investigation began for Chakori Devi. The Doctor did the slit lamp microscopic evaluation for  Chakori Devi. After the investigation only one thing remained.  That is, if she is fit for OT or not. After half an hour our own physician came and checked her report for sugar, hypertension,

Oxygen saturation, and by the grace of god every report was Normal, and our physician certified her fitness for OT.

Later at 8:30 PM she had her dinner in hospital. She knew that next day will be a big day for her. So she decided to sleep early.

Next day on  9/1/2024  early morning Chakori Devi had her simple breakfast.  She wore her proper dress for operation and she was ready. At 10:30 am Chakori Devi went to OT and at 11:30 she returned from  OT, to the  female ward with the help of attendant. She was happy and a little bit tense but that’s normal.

At 12:00 am she had her lunch. At evening post operative visual assessment was done in the hospital and the Doctor checked  the operated eye for post operative finding. He told Chakori Devi that the  operation was successful. Chakori Devi was very happy.

Next day on the 10/1/2024  early morning Chakori Devi got ready to return to bawai with a smile on her face .She had her breakfast and sat  in the hospital bus which was ready to leave for bawai .

At 7:00 AM the hospital bus left the  hospital and she got home at 3:00 PM .  After one week on the 16/1/2024 Chakori Devi came to Rudraparyag vision centre for follow up.  Our staff checked her visual assessment and said that the operation is o.k. and vision is 6/9.

Our staff gave her the required eye drops and how to use those drops.

She was very happy that she was having another 20 years of eyesight. She blessed us and told us that everything was perfect in Vivekananda Netrakaya Dehradun. She  also determined to get  her right eye cataract operated after 1 month.
